EU-US TRADE AND TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL

The European  Union and the United States have always been strongly committed partners to guiding digital transformation and to cooperate in the development of new technologies based on their fundamental and shared democratic values, including, and not least, respect for human rights.

In order to promote cooperation, stimulate trade and investment, strengthen technological and industrial leadership, boost innovation, protect and promote emerging technologies, the EU and the US, at the summit held this month, they agreed to the establishment of a Trade and Technology Council. In addition to discussing bilateral issues, the TTC will also contribute to global efforts to promote a democratic model of digital governance,  meeting periodically at the political level to guide cooperation, co-chaired by the European Commission’s executive chairman and Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager, and by the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Trade Valdis Dombrovskis, by the EU and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, by the US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, and by the US Trade Representative, Katherine Tai, from the US. At the same time, the EU and the US have established a joint dialogue on technological competition policy, which will focus on developing common approaches and strengthening cooperation on competition in the technological fields.
